Abstract

Scarcity of resources in different countries, specially developing countries, shows the importance of identifying key sectors for different economies. Recognition of key sectors is one of the important subjects for policy makers and economic planners. In economic literature, great developments and many different methods for determining key sectors both in theory and in practice are recognized. One of the most important approaches in this field introduced recently is based on IO+EC and DEA. The purpose of this study is to determine the key sectors of Iran. For this purpose, Input- Output table of 2001 Iran’s economy from Statistical Centre of Iran is used. The results show that parts of the state education services, rental services and private residential units, public services, private education services, health services, social services, and other personal and household services are the key sectors in the economy of Iran.
