According to economic theory, it can be expected that the increase in imports, increase the intensity of competition among domestic firms. Hence, the purpose of the present paper is the investigation the effects of import on the competition intensity in Iran's manufacturing industries. In this study, using the approach of panel data and four-digit ISIC industry code data as well as import data, during 1375 to 1387, the rate of return as the dependent variable and the measure of competition (PCM), and also of import penetration index, concentration index, economies of scale, capital intensity, and interaction between import and concentration as independent variable, were considered. The results show that the effect of import penetration index on the domestic industry was negative, which suggests that with the increase in imports, the domestic industry market structure will lead to competition.
